JUST SNAPPED A BOLT!!!!!

well i was told by a vw mechanic to do them as tight as i possibly could with a short t bar so i did and the bolt snapped  oh and "oldschoolperformance" i dont eat wheetabix just good old scotts porridge oats

can you tell us which garage he works at so we can boycott it. he is obvioulsy not a very good mechanic.

well he doesnt work at a garage he is a one man band but he used to work for vw and hes worked on lots of mk2s hes got a 400bhp 2.1 litre turbo'd engine to go in one of his mk2's with straightcut racing gears and lsd and the brakes are well massive to say the least so i think he knows what hes talkiing about, well matbe his as tight as you can possibly get it is not as tight as my tight as you can possibly get it, i am going to borrow a torque wrench to do up all the nuts that iv replaced just to make sure

I think "short" was the key word  That said a mechanic can usually feal the correct torque with good accuracy.

Even so - there is no substitute for using the recommended torque settings - 60Nm for the rear axle nut.

Unlucky - I think most of us will have done this to something
