Car: MK2 GTi 3 door 1989.
Original Problem: Lots of water in car mainly in drivers side rear footwell but damp in driver footwell too. Dry in passenger side. Water is getting in when car parked up. I resealed driver door membrane and put a second sheet behind. Moved door pin so the door seals as tight as poss.
There is no water evident behind the door seal when I open the door and the bottom of the door card is dry.
There is no water dripping off the pedals, but there is an odd drip from the fusebox area (very slight, not enuff to explain puddle and why the puddle is in the rear).
Sunroof drain holes front and back clear.
Scuttle tray under bonnet not cracked.
Seak n seal used around windscreen.
Car usually parked facing uphill. So today I parked it facing downhill to see what happens.
Drove to work (whilst continually wiping windscreen and getting a damp arse) - hmmm what's that sloshing sound? hucking fell! the glovebox is absolutely full of water! There is also now very damp passenger side footwells front and rear.
There seems to be a little damp behind the passenger door seal at the front end after parking the car facing downhill (I guess a small leak from front end of door membrane that doesn't affect when parked uphill). There is alos damp and mould showing on the carpet in the passenger side front footwell next to the central console.
Lifted the bonnet and took the plastic scuttle tray off - there is a drip coming from the blanked-off windscreen wiper hole on the near-side of the car - some of which is getting down the mesh covered air intake under the scuttle tray.
But how has the glovebox filled up?
I think I have leaks from both door membranes and/or seals, and from the fusebox area, somehow into the glovebox and left side of central console area.
Jeezus!
