1.8T Clutch Slip, surely it should have given up by now!!

I first noticed my clutch starting to slip now and then around sept last year,  car is 100% standard and used daily, including a 400 mile round trip once a month.

It doesnt always slip, only now and then,  but surely by now it should have given up completely or at least got considerably worse.

Since it started slipping I priced up having a new one, or getting rid of the dual mass as advised elsewhere on this site.  but because it hasn't got any worse I havent bothered!!

A long shot, but is it possible it could it be something else causing the slip,  seeing as it hasnt worn out yet??

If it is the clutch you dont want that to go bang you will b using tweesers to get all the little fragments out of the gear box. A liquid based substance may have leaked onto you flywheel courseing it to slip either way you had better check it.

dont you think thats a long time for it just to be slipping now and then?

From previous cars ive owned in the past with normal clutches I've had two need replacing, and they only lasted a couple of months, before it slips so much it virtually undrivable.

mine went from slipping to cracked in a week! but i just had the car remaped, and i was caning the hell outa it that week!

but it dont sound goood, get it cheked anyway!

do you boot it often? clutch can last for ages with slipping if you dont drive aggressive.

has the clutch/brake fluid been changed recently?

No dont really tend to put my foot down much unless i'm out on an open road,  I'm a bit of a safety first driver :S

Yes, had new discs pads and brake fluid, 8-10 weeks ago.   Does the Brake and Clutch use same fluid then???

Yes it does. Did you bleed the lines when you done the brakes? Could be summit as simple as a weak clutch cylinder action or line needing bled

You could have a small oil leak that is getting onto the clutch.

Mine was slipping for ages, it started only slipping only in 5th on a very rare occasion and that was with a remap. Several months later it became more frequent especially with a loaded car and camping. Then two months later it was getting worse and worse by day. They do put up a good fight on the way out compared to my polo's clutch which gave up so quickly.

If it's slipping, you'll be scoring your flywheel anyway, so may aswell get the flywheel and clutch conversion done.
