new head? 8v...
« on: 23 June 2007, 17:19 »
hi all, been messing around with ideas in my head, an i believe my cars bottom end may be from an audi 80... now i believe that the bottom end is a 5 cylinder and so would accept the 5 cyclinder head from the audi 80, but is this head any better than the one thats in a golf gti? and would it be worth finding one and having it skimmed polished etc... or could i get the same gains from my 4 cyclinder pb head?

also toying with the idea of a porsche turbo engine, think its 928's or something like that with a turbo? any ideas? i.e. can it be done?

cheers, rob

if you have a 5cyl bottom end you have to have the same as a head  as in inlets and exhaust valves for each cylinder your car would not run and would look totaly out of place if you had 5cyl bottom end and 4cyl head
5cyl there will be 5 spark plugs one for each cylinder
4cyl will have four plugs

How do you know the bottom end is off an audi?

if it is it may be a 2litre 8v or 16v, depending on your car. if its a 16v the engine code will be 6a and if its a 2.0 8v then the engine code will be 2e (i think?).

The standard 8v head will go straight on the Audi 80 block with an engine code of 3A, for an 8v 2litre setup. Sound like this is what you have.
