cheers for your help guys!! i just did quotes on money supermarket and confused!! £2500 was the best on money supermarket and on confused it was £8000!!!!! i might do a quote with my dad as the named driver! that would change the price alot wouldnt it??

Yep, thats what I do. I'm 20 and pay £1000 on a 2.0 GTi MK4. If thats any help. Remember if you are going to do that your old man needs to be owner of the car and not you, just a heads up.

Let me know how you get on as I'm intrigued.

Depends on the company as many will rate on the highest risk driver (you) anyway.

Be careful doing this as insurers are not daft and could refuse to pay you in the event of a claim, they call it "fronting" where you take a policy in a parents name just to get a cheaper price despite the fact its really your car and you are the main user. If its your car and you are the main driver you must declare it otherwise you could be paying all that money for a policy that will be worthless in the event of a claim.

just make sure you go with someone that lets named drivers build a ncb.. or you'll be paying silly money for insurance until you're 30.

this named driver bonus is still a bit of a grey area, just cos one insurer comes up with the idea to sell more policies it does not mean that all the others will honour it. Trouble with most of these bonus accelerators and named driver bonuses etc etc they are normally only acceptable against another policy from the same company hence you are trapped into staying with them, again be careful.......

you can own the car insure yourseolf then have you dad as a named driver as i do. I own my cxar and am policy holder. This way you'll build upNCB but your Dad wont and it should be cheaper.

The last few people who've replied seem to think you want to go under your Dads name.
