Damage to these, can not only cause damage to the car engine by giving false readings but can also cause your catalytic convertor to fail. So lets say a lambda probe is about £40, and a cat is say £230ish, then there is fitting, which can be say 2 hours to remove all the manifold and surrounding gubbins, you are looking at about £350 for repairs.

Drop in the ocean then.

So if you don't have CAT then the damage is limited? right?

Apparently the problem is that the petrol has a higher than normal silicon content and when it goes through the system its sticking to the lambda sensor thus causing it to send incorrect signals to the ECU resulting in the engine conking out, how this results in damage to the ECU I don't know. Slick#13, what you said interested me as I have a digi engine in the car and a spare one in the garage and I've yet to find a lambda or oxygen sensor on either  :undecided:  although MK2's that were fitted with a cat did have a CO measuring pipe in the exhaust manifold. I think its fair to say this is gonna cost Tesco and Morrison's a few quid now its been proved that the problem was with the fuel they sold

its mostly g60's that have a lambda probe, which is digifant 2 and only very few, very late mk2 8v's have them, most digifants are digifant 1 and are not fitted with a lambda probe.

Aye uruk sorry should have mentioned that it was later digis that had them, (along with the G's as stated)

Martz, you should be ok, just keep an eye on it, it will soon let you know if there is a problem.
