« on: 22 January 2007, 17:58 »
Hi my manifold has a crack in it wich iv'e welded lol did a quick job and it's gone again now this it the pic of the mani:

not even my dog is sure if its right or not lol

and this is the mani on my m8t's gti 16v

now first off i know the second mani is the wrong way around please look past that...

wich one of these mani's should be the standard on a 90-91 mk2 gti 16v??

out cars are only one reg away from each other..

Did they make different ones?

also does anyone know where i can get the top one from iv'e phoned local scrappies without any luck.

thanks Dan

Your probably better off putting the standard one on as aftermarket four branch manifolds can crack or snap if a vibratech type (solid) engine mount isn't fitted due to the pressure put on the manifold by the movement of the engine.

Do you still need solid mounts even with that flexi joint at the bottom of the downpipe??

A new Stainless Steel 4 Branch manifold will cost anywhere from £250 to £350 and can be bought from loads a places.

Thats still an aftermarket 4 branch, just not stanless. No 16vs got em from the factory, the second pic is what a factory 16v manifold & downpipe look like :)

If you have a solid metal front engine mount, it shouldn't crack, unless its been made out of cheap metal

I've known a lot cars with that type of manifold and some of them crack due to the amount of vibration that comes from the engine regardless of the type of engine mount.
