brake discs and pads
« on: 29 August 2004, 18:13 »
What are the best upgrade front discs and pads for a '94 M-reg Mk3 16v GTi? I need better stopping power as the standard VW items are cr@p compared to the wife's Focus 1.6 brakes. ???

I've got G60 280mm ones on my mk2 and combined with mintex pads they're awesome. I had the discs drilled by a mate purely for the look, but they don't half scrub off the speed.

if you want serious stopping power you can go for a brembo 4 pot setup with 305mm discs, but you'll have to run at least 16" wheels then. costs are ?400+

Bit of a Hijack but....

I have a 94 Gti 8v too - does anyone know the sizes of front and rear discs and whether they have the cable sensor on the pad or not? It's all a bit confusing when trying to choose parts!

It's urban right? That means it must be tougher, obviously.... ;-)

Best bet is to take a front wheel off and measure the size of the disks with a tape measure, also look on the front pads to see if you have a wire going to the pads!!.  Im pretty sure the rear disks are the same size on all Mk2's

Who ever your buying the spares from just give them your reg, and if they're reputable enough they'll tell you what you need!
