custom sub box for mk2
« on: 27 July 2006, 23:37 »
does anyone produce a custom sub box that would take up a minimal amount of space in a mk2 boot?
i'm thinking something that would nestle in behind the shock tower - i guess with a contoured back so that it'd protrude the minimal distance into the boot.
any ideas of suppliers or tips to make your own?
cheers
mack

Done that in my Mk 3 and there's a thread around here somewhere!

My way was very complicated and although I'm pleased with the result, I would do it differently in hindsight.

My advise if you are doing it yourself would be to use some stiff card and make templates. Then cut MDF to suit.

nice one Len - so with the benefit of hindsight what would you do differently? how does the finish product sound? and how exactly did you attach the MDF front panel to the fibreglass rear..?

cheers uruk hai -  i think i will give it ago before shelling out top dollar for a ready made one

Well I started by using a kind of papier mache, newspaper with woodglue.

Now I would go straight to MDF with a card template.

Attaching back to sides I used selftapping screws then glassed over the joint. But now I would make the back in MDF then attach the sides with screws and any odd shapes and corners glass over.

Its a solid as a rock now!

The sound is great! The 10" is as good as the 12" i've got in my other car!
