Well thanks for all the help, been suggested I replace the discs too as they possibly may be warped.. I'll check them anyway before I go get the bearings and fit them so I don't have to make two journeys. Also, would original VW discs be better suited than replacement ones? (less tendancy to warp)

Little braking is made at the rear of the car, you could possibly get some aftermarket vented discs, posbbily grooved, i'm surprised the oem ones have warped, depends how much you want to spend. May be worth changing the pads at the same time?
