To be or not to be revo'd...that is the question!
« on: 20 April 2006, 11:02 »
Hey guys and gals..

I have just bought a 1.8T Golf (W-reg)..Standard 150bhp - no mods - totally standard.

Anyway, i have decided i want to go for revo remap, but have a few questions..

1 - Want to leave my car totally standard..With this in mind, would a revo still be viable purchase? I know i should really change the dump valve (to maybe forge), but i'm an old man now (34 ;-)) and with a kid on the way, didn't want to attract too much attention..I know some dump values are very noisy (which is what i don't want)

2 - MPG figures..I drive around 20 miles daily (roundtrip) - mostly in traffic (i live in london)...Average around 32mpg...I don't drive hard, but would like the extra ummph when required..With this in mind, would mpg figures drop considerably with this mod?

3 - Revo, jabbasport, amd all seem to be names that keep popping up..I'd be right in assuming that Revo is a good choice for a re-map..

4 - I know revo do an option to switch from stock to revo'd, if i decided not to take this and just have the upgrade on all the time, would the car still be drivable in and around traffic? Any detronment to car?

I appreciate these may be vague questions but any help on this subject would be appreciated...I am planning to get it booked in for Sat in Surrey..

Thanks

1) IF your stock dv dies, replace it with a forge recirculating item, practically inaudible.

2) Mpg is the same if you drive it the same, obviously it varies when you boot it. Cruising on the motorway at 70 the other night my mpg counter was reading 42 mpg. I don't do a lot of traffic driving and my mpg is about 38 on average.

3) One is as good as another, go for price/convenience.. just avoid the ebay bargains.

4) You only notice the extra power when you want to, you won't accidentally hit full boost while stuck in a line of traffic. I have the sps1 switch but have never used it. You learn how to handle the power pretty quickly.. i still remember the first time i felt that lovely whack of torque the first time i hit 2500 rpm after being revo'd.

If you're unsure at all they should be able to give you a free 5 hour trial of the software.
