Ok I have the MOT for the car due tomorrow, and this Friday  driving down to the in-laws the abs warning lamp comes on and stays on(sods law right!). Not a problem I think to myself as it more than likely will be a sensor at fault after reading up on these problems on here. So for a day or two it's been on and won't come off....Anyway, yesterday I start the car up and the ABS warning lamp is not coming on at all, so now i'm getting a lil worried.. Phoned garage up I use on the Saturday and they said they will read the codes and try sort it before it goes in for it's MOT... I just wondering from anyone who's had problems with the ABS has any idea what's at fault here.. Sensor? Pump? Bulb? Relay?.. Brakes appear to be fine in working order, not had a chance to test the ABS proper yet, but hasn't been locking up stopping at speed yet.. Any directions to look at would be appreciated.

More likely will be a sensor, o/s front seems to be the favourite.

Well GolfVR6 your guess was indeed correct  It was the Offside front which had gone, also the bulb from the unit had blown too hence the reason it was not illuminating. So garage has rewired in a new bulb instead of replacing the whole unit as he doesn't justify the £70 it would have cost to replace the whole unit. Good news is, it sailed through it's MOT  So pump isn't on the way out and bonus... no fault codes found either *breathes a sigh of relief*

could be one of many things on abs but fear not !!!!!VAG codes will reveal all even an intermitant fault lets not hope it is the famous faulty solieniod on pump as could prove pricey as whole unit required but you should be able to feel ABS working when lights are not on as a slight judder under the foot pedal under normal braking conditions i hope i am not teaching you to suck eggs here!!! as not wanting to sound a know it all

That is 2 different cars
By the way, you don't need VAG com to test sensors, just use a multimeter.

Thought I'd have the codes read anyway, for peace of minds sake. As I have few little things I want to try and sort out, so having them read could have led in the direction of sorting them or any problems I didn't know where there. Trouble with me is I tend not to live with problems, must be why my bank manager loves me
