Polo GTI Plus plugs

I have already posted on uk-polos.net.

The plugs and coil packs were removed by the dealer due to a bad misfire. The car has covered 38000miles and is 6 years old, the plugs should have been replaced at 4 years according to the service regime. It's been dealer serviced since new and currently has an all in plan, the plugs and coil packs have been refused as a warranty claim. Do these plugs look like something that has been fitted for 2 years?

Wow! Has the car been in a lake?!

I'd agree in that they in themselves aren't a warranty claim. More importantly, what has caused it? Old plugs wouldn't normally look like that so it's not just a case of "they are old and weren't replaced 2 years ago". Has someone ever jet-washed the engine? Or any reason for a lot of water to be in the engine bay?

My thoughts exactly when the dealer first sent the photos, never been through anything other than a puddle. Not even been to the sea side.
