It was the larger brakes and red callipers with GTI logo that did it for me. Can’t say I’d ever really notice the extra 15 BHP but 245 sounds better than 230.
Either way it’s a cracking car, love driving it.

Went to my local VW Dealer for a demo drive of a PP GTi with a view to either ordering a TCR or finding a good CS40.

The Demo was an Isaac Blue 3 door Manual with Bresicas and Art Velour interior..... within 30 minutes of the test drive my search was over for a replacement for my M-Sport Fiesta and I now own that demo.

I’ve driven a TCR since and although I enjoyed it not enough to flip the PP.

Just bought a PP, initially not bothered either way, but so happy I did based on the power during the test drive and bigger brakes. The other benefits I can’t comment on yet!

Having had a non PP for three years, I was at the end of the finance just when there was only PP’s after the WLTP debacle. I knew, from comments and tests, that the 7-speed DSG was a big improvement over the 6-speed I was used to, so I was keen on the PP anyway. When it came, I was as impressed with the rest of the car as others here. Everything seems to be up a notch and the whole package seems just well balanced. It is the best Golf I have owned and is, for me, the pick of the bunch. Love it!

I remember it being said, back when the PP first became a thing, that the small boost in power was simply to compensate for the extra weight of the brakes and diff. Seems reasonable to me.

Is it sad that I initially only ticked the PP option box because the brakes looked better lol. That said, the diff is very good indeed and mine's a manual... and a Mk7, so no difference in the gearbox anyway (apart from the mods for the diff).
