The performance pack was a must for me. My reasons were that my previous MK7 Fiesta ST was so fun to drive. Keen for a bit of lift off oversteer, would cock a rear wheel for fun and really nimble on country roads.

I knew when moving to the 7.5 GTi that this car is much more grown up and setup for more neutral handling. In this car I have my fun by utilising the VAQ diff. Still amazes my to this day how I can go round a sharp bend in second and just nail the throttle.
The way the car pulls itself round sharp bends on throttle is just astounding. Even in the wet! As others have said I also like the look of the bigger brakes.

I did that mistake buying non-PP, and let me tell you, I could not stop thinking about PP.  PX it in February after 12 months of owning non-PP and could not be much happier about it.

DSG 7 is at last usable in S mode during city driving, much smoother and refined in my opinion. Car as well feels faster to me.

Traction is on another level as well. Not once I experienced wheel slip or loss of traction yet where on non-PP it did happen on the same road and conditions.

Bigger brakes much better as well but everyone knows it :)

The only thing I'm missing is DSG farts :P but exhaust does sound much better so it's not that bad.

Overall PP is the only way to go and I won't do same mistake IF I decide to stick with golf in future.

I have my VAG Sport res delete, used for 18 months. Even got the clamp so easy fit! Haven't got round to giving it a clean and taking any pics yet but PM if interested. Gives a really nice extra bit of loud over a normal 245 but not too much!

As with most car issues it is a case of personal taste and usually money. I have a 230 with a 6 speed, and it meets my everyday needs, plus able to have a bit of fun. I originally took a test drive in a PP and it is indeed a good car, with a few little extras, but I did not need the extras, and I did not get on with the DSG gearbox. That said I know others who swear by it.

Whatever you choose you will enjoy it

Interested if any TCR owners jumped from a 7.5 PP?

How much of a difference is it? Visually I think the TCR is spot on, but haven't driven one.

Performance. No choice for me- no standard car when I ordered in late 2018.
The question I have occasionally asked is whether the standard car would've been just as enjoyable for the use I make of it.
I think I would've picked the performance
2018 Golf GTI Performance  5dr manual, Isaac blue
1988 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9, 2022 Triumph Street Triple R, 2016 Seat Alhambra.

I went for the PP just for the diff. I'm planning on a remap so thought it would help get the power down.

Though TBH the platform is really impressive with or without it. With gobs of torque and bumpy, greasy roads it should be a mess but it just sticks and goes without any fuss.
