The going rate for a car with an undiagnosed missing 6th gear will be horrendous!

When I sold my previous car to webuyanycar.com they just started it up, moved it a foot forward and a foot backward and then turned it off.

Well I can assure you they don't do that now.

I went to them a  year ago and they did everything to knock money off the internet price, oh and I'm talking a car worth £300. Took it for a run to check all the gears, yes that's exactly what he said to me. In the end the price fell away from the internet price by so much I lost my patients with them and told them I wasn't interested in their deal. I wasn't doing it for the money I was doing it to keep a good cheap reliable car on the road for an owner that couldn't afford anything other. In the end I drove it to a scrap yard and the price was £20 more than webuyanycar.

That’s good to know, I sold mine in 2017 the week before I picked my Golf up so either my guy was lazy or practices have changed.

Not got rid yet, it's going back into the garage tomorrow so they can have another look at it.

No point going mental, not going to change where I am with car at this point, it was VW who said it was a gearbox issue initially so it has to be something wrong in that area. I will speak to the guy tomorrow and make sure I wont be charged for anything further.

Worst comes to the worse I will just have to trade it in (no one has ever test drove my previous 4 cars I have sold previous when using dealerships most recently a 15k Focus ST, just a quick look around and ignition start and that's that). Hopefully wont come to that point though

I'm not talking about going mental because I agree I don't think that gets you anywhere except getting peoples backs up that you are relying on helping you, but it would absolutely be testing my patience, nothing worse than car issues you can't get rid of!!

I had a 4 year old VW toe rag before my Golf R and I was already tempted with a golf when the Toe rag developed a wheel wobble at any speed above 32mph, I tried everything to cure it, wheel balancing, new tyres, swapped wheels over front to back, drive shafts checked you name it..... in the end took it to the main dealer she turned it around in the car park and offered me 2 grand more in part ex than I expected!!! even if they did discover any issues afterwards it's no skin off their noses its just straight off to the block! (auction)

all the best whatever happens!

Don't be afraid to use legal action should it be necessary. The small claims court in Scotland is for issues below 5k, it's quite easy and you could get your money back with little effort.

It's easy to just let "them" get away with a poor job but it's harder to fight your own corner but the threat of legal action might just do it for you. Good luck with the next visit but if you get no results an email with legal action might just do the job.......or a refund. A friend used this process to recover the costs of a cam belt replacement , that turned out months later wasn't done, on a Lexus SC430 ......it worked for him the mere threat and consequences going into the public domain meant they gave him his money back.
Good luck 👍
