Can't say I've ever looked at a year old Golf and thought it was good value for money compared to new from a good broker.

Standard cars on DTD are £31.5k at 4.9% APR. Cheapest I can see on AutoTrader is 6 months old and 9k miles. Over £28k, almost double the interest rate, less warranty and part worn tyres. Looks like a standard car too except for the red paint. Might be just about worth it if buying for cash, or if you get a good trade-in, or if you can't wait for a factory order. But this is why when it comes to Golf's I prefer buying new. Used Golf's usually need at least a year or two of depreciation before they begin to look like decent value. Just my opinion.

As said here, it depends on financing whether it’s worth buying new or used.
New car PCP is geared up to suck you in and hold you to buying again in the same way. Used car PCP is very expensive.
I’m old fashioned and save up cash and top up with low interest bank loans. The flexibility amongst other things suits me much better.

There are deals to be had on Ex-demo TCRs, i secured one myself without trying remotely hard. It was almost too easy.
Bear in mind part-ex prices are low in winter as the market is slow and dealers don’t want depreciating stock sitting around for months, especially things like R’s where there is a plentiful supply and much competition.
A TCR is more fun than an R but I’d not swap one for the other unless it cost me very little money.
Golfs don’t nose dive in value when a new model is released thankfully, especially seeing as the mk8 is ugly and the immediate opposition isn’t significantly better or more modern feeling than a 7.5 can only help retained values of current Golfs.

Phoning a few dealers now while they’re quiet and sounding them out for deals by making yourself look genuinely ready to deal might turn up a car that a sales manager needs off his books.
