So really just personal preference as there doesn't seem much in it. I've not driven either mind.

Very much personal opinion. I disagree with a few points but can’t argue with the overall summary.

Agreed, not much to contest in the summary really aside from the getaway traction which think the reviewers must have been more compromised for being on the CUP 2 Tyres and where on the P Zero there has been pretty much no compromise from driving the R last winter to driving the TCR this winter (Albeit a mild one so far)

Mat on the VWROC forum switched the CUP 2's out for P Zero and states the experiences was transformed, stating the CUP 2 were likely amazing in the summer but more a liability in the winter.

Having put 2500 miles on the TCR and at one with it now, its bringing as equal smiles as the R achieved, with maybe a just a smidge of extra due to the styling tweaks and relative exclusivity. Its a joy to drive, truly.

The Cup2’s will definitely need a fair bit of heat in them and bone dry roads to be anywhere near their best (a bit like Bridgestones  :laugh: ) and I too find the P Zeros very good for traction, even compared against the PS4S I had on the Clubsport the Pirelli’s are not bad.
I too have done around 2k miles quite quickly in the TCR versus doing about 2k a year in the CS ED40.
It’s been a while now since I had my R so can’t compare directly but the TCR compares very well with it in all areas and is more entertaining in others as a daily road car.
My TCR is very anonymous in white minus any decals and it certainly surprised a mk7 GTI the other day (though I doubt it would have much, if any, legs against a 7.5PP DSG).

I expect many here will have seen this Carwow comparison of a pre and post WLTP RS3 which is interesting as there has been much debate and wondering how WLTP effects the EA888 too.

The rolling road tests are really interesting as they show how the mapping has been done to lean off the mid-range but compensated for by boosting the low and top end. That would explain something I saw in one of the TCR press releases boasting about improved torque characteristics as no doubt the EA888 WLTP factory mapping will follow a similar path to the 5 pot RS3 motor’s fuelling and boost mapping.

The TCR exhaust noise certainly has presence too as my son said he could hear me coming several streets away when I picked him up the other day
“That’s one noisy car”

The R is definitely the sophisticated all rounder but the TCR has a charm of its own.
