Definitely no warning Booth11, unless I need new varifocals! Will practise the manual way in daylight, be prepared and all that.

Once you’ve replaced the battery you’ll know if it’s that or another issue.  If it is the battery then you should definitely have had a warning, so if not then best flag it with the dealer.

Keyless is a real battery drainer as its constantly talking to the car I assume. Had a BMW and both fobs went in space a few weeks and had hardly used the spare!

If you're going to give the 'getting the lock cover off' thing a try, make sure you put something in there to protect the paintwork.

Whilst the slot is a great idea, I'd not be too keen to whack the key in the slot and twist it without some form of protection against the door - but maybe that's just me!

To ad to that you also need to keep a hold of the little plastic part too because it will go a flying when it does pop off.

Re: paintwork concerns, my thoughts exactly did not want to be faffing in the dark trying to get to the key slot even after kind replies on here had let me know that was an option.
Have been to the dealer this morning and when they finally decided it should have displayed an error(!) they hooked it up and said it showed up on the 28 june.....the day it went in for service. So I wonder if that means they reset it accidentally on that day? I certiainly have not seen anything on the display or in 'car status', which I do check from time to time, also i toggle through options on the steering wheel fairly regularly so surely would have spotted it then. I've already played the 'stranded in a  remote place not wanting to fiddle with the lock' card to get them to look at it this morning....let's hope for their sake it wasn't their fault....

Maybe they did reset it at service.  When my batteries are low I get the warning repeatedly until the battery is changed, over several days, not just the once.

Yeah that’s weird.  My battery last approx 18 months before alerting me that it’s low.  The alert is usually shown every time you enter the car.

They've booked it in as they've never come across the issue before...but methinks they won't find an issue other than someone re-set it during the service..And they probably won't admit that.
