Very rarely see a 7GTI around my way.  There are a few more 7GTDs, but I would say 7Rs outnumber both.  I've haven't seen another CS so far.

Slightly off topic but GTI related, almost

Had a trip to a few dealers this morning to check out potential new cars for my wife.
She originally fancied a new GTI in Oryx white but has been talked out of this by my 2 sons who don't think 2 GTI's on the drive is a good idea. What the **** would they know?
Anyway, she's ruled out 3 door cars so no scirocco or TT which is a shame because I like them both.
Can't bring myself to look at Merc A class so it was off to BMW to look at the 1 series.
By the way, this is the EXACT same routine that we did 3 years ago before she ended up with a A3 sportback s line
We both liked the 1 series to some extent but little things put us off. Namely the fact that they all have manual handbrakes in a slightly weird position and they are full of a shiny black plastic trim that looks prone to scratches. The stop start button is also positioned in an odd place. Also, the foot pedals are quite noticeably offset to the right.
This is the same conclusion we came to 3 years age
She only wants a car in the same size bracket as the Golf/A3 so not looking at 3 series or A4's and the like.
It really is a dilemma, and she's now gone back to fancying a GTI again.
I think it may be worth hanging fire until the Mk8 Golf and new A3 arrive in the hopefully not too distant future

Conclusion - the Golf GTI is the best all round car that sensible money can buy, period!

My routines for buying cars tend to be pretty similar.
Get fed up with looking at a Golf.
Look at everything else but a Golf.
End up back in a Golf and wonder why I've just wasted two years depreciation as I may as well have kept my last one.

Tell her to wait for the mk8.
I'd warmed to the facelifted cars after looking at photos of them until I saw two in the flesh this week, both black funnily enough. One was an R on Cadiz and I thought the new bumper looked hideous from the front but it looked marginally nicer from the back.
The second was a non Performance Golf and I had a bit better look at this one as it was parked up. I sort of felt ok about it, the front just has some Passat style corporate tweaks done to it and the rear looked a bit better than the pre-FL non performance Golfs but then I saw the binnacle where the dials should be. One word came in my head "Cyclops"
It might look cool when switched on but it looks bloody awful switched off. Really ugly.

And yes, the GTI is the best all round car that sensible money can buy, FL or non-FL.

You're spot on as regards the new binnacle, it looks like crap when it's off!
As far as 'telling' my wife to do something is concerned, I'd probably get a punch in the balls for my trouble
