Good news, but thinking that the dealer will be counting his lucky stars. He owes you, big time, so don't let up on him! Tell him you are considering your options about complaining to VW. All dealers are very dependant on their customer approval rating. Let him know you know that. What's complicated about a washer? Even a faulty washer shouldn't let all the oil out - if the plug was torqued up properly. They are spinning you one, but they will want to save face, so I would give them options.

The washers are just the usual collapsing type. I suppose it could be a faulty one but I doubt it, more lightly a faulty fitter.

Glad they are paying the costs but as you say the op has saved them big time.

Given the sump plugs are now plastic I wouldn't be surprised if they cross threaded it. It'll leak big time if so. Very much doubt the washer was faulty.

Good that they sorted it out though. The fact they offered to reimburse the truck suggests they know they've done wrong and been lucky.

Yes - as stated above, in this day and age the chance of a faulty washer are very remote. It will almost certainly be the fault of the dealership for not seating/fitting it correctly.
