Most things that set the time like that receive a signal with the which the clock understands, but the signal is constant throughout the year, unless the clock knows the date and has been told to adjust to winter time it won't do it  (it needs to know the date to know when, not all countries adjust their clocks for winter so it needs to be told to do it, if it can't be told or doesn't know the date, or both it needs to be done manually).

Mother-in-law had a Vectra in 1999. That had an RDS clock that would adjust for summer and winter time. It would also adjust to French time when crossing the channel. I see no reason why all cars with a radio can't do this.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I was in wife's car last week(XC60) and I was late for an appointment at the doctors so I had to drive a bit like a boy racer. Got to the doctors 50 minutes early

My Golf GTD changed the time by itself. Don't remember faffing around with any summertime settings or that. Had a BMW before that I had to manually change the time. Was surprised by that little detail really from BMW.
