16v no 1 cylinder not doing much!
« on: 11 August 2016, 19:03 »
Hi ,
I had the car ticking over today thinking it sounded ok but was informed that it didn't sound right.
The guy then pulled the plug on cylinder 1,. no change to the running, but pull any other plug and it starts to run rough.
So have checked the injectors, and swapped them around checked the spark plugs and leads but nothing makes any difference.
There is no smoke from exhaust on start up or when running it also starts up very easy.
I know its going to need a compression test but has any one any ideas what might be going on?

Checked the leads sparking Yeh?
If so compression check, could be a valve burnt and this losing compression. Wont know until you pull the head off though bud

I had this issue recently on mine, right at the same time I changed the carb.

I did the spark plug test as mentioned above and it turned out that even though the plugs and leads might look okay, the lead itself wasn't performing as well as it should.

Luckily I had a spare set of leads and was able to swap it over. Now they all work fine. I also brushed down the plugs with a copper brush whilst I was at it.

But yeah, it was cylinder 1 for me also..

I did swap the leads about but still the same problem on no1. I'm just wondering if a bit of old injector seal has got stuck under one of the valves as I did have some bits drop down the hole when I took the injectors out, I thought I had got it all out. Its booked in for a compession test tomorrow morning.

Compression is good I think it might be the metering head?

But the injectors in seperate cups.or something amd crank.the engine, if its an injecto or metering head fault youll see.
If you unscrew the injector pipes and crank and fuel comes up all 4 pipes then its an injector

It's been at the garage for the compression test and they did all the checks on the injectors and this is what they reckon. The owner of the garage thought he might have an old metering head to swap them around but could not find it.

By process of elimination it would have to be unless, (and ive had this on a customers car) this inlet manifold gasket is leaking on no.1 then it can cause it to misfire. When it happened to me it took ages to find.
