I remember the PDR guy that I use telling me that dent removal on older cars is much more difficult or even impossible. Something to do with the way the panels are made nowadays makes PDR much more feasible.

Yes, indeed, my 20 year old (VW group) car has proper metal panels and my mk7 is made of recycled bean cans.
My old GTI was clipped by an artic a year or so ago (whilst parked up) and just has a small dent in the front wing and a bit of chipped paint. If my mk7 had been parked there I don't think it would have got off that lightly.

Thinner panels don't help modern cars steer clear of dings, nor does ever increasing levels of Copper in recycled steel, making it softer/more malleable.

Nor does careless idiots flinging their doors open or ramming their supermarket trolleys onto your doors.

I always look for the "Sheldon spot" in any car park and won't park next to anything tatty or an obvious carrier of small kids. I do find that people up here in the North East are a bit more respectful of other people's in general (there are a lot of newish cars up here) When I visit my Dad down in Southampton, people are so brazen about flinging the door of their 12 year old Fiesta open against your new Golf and when challenged they just say "it's only a car". Easy to say that when you're driving something that doubles in value every time you fill up!

Them new ford RS's have a protector on the door edge that pops out only as the door is opened, really good idea.Stops you scuffing your door edge.

Good idea but pretty pointless if you're  careful. Which we probably all are.

Now if it could protect you from others opening their door onto you, that would be a winner.
