Boost gauge and locking glovebox

Is this boost gauge display able to be activated in any settings on a 2016 Gti

^^ According to others the boost gauge seems inaccurate, it won't display negative values and the boost pressure doesn't convert atmospheric pressure, so it reads something silly like 30psi, which it isn't at all. 

The only thing that needs to be looked at is the revs... and the speedo of course.  Anything displayed below and to the left of your line of sight is a waste of time unless some feel its possible to view data in real time constantly while driving.

Nice to have on a new model for fun value though, to show people, I wouldn't mind it.  But I would want to rely on it or think its accurate

Any link of these reports? I was going to cross check the values against VCDS anyway the first time I'd try it out to see if and how off it is but it doesn't make much sense for it not to read the ECU values directly. In the pic I see 2.10 bar from which  I assume that atmospheric pressure is included. I'll be the first to criticize it if it reads nonsense anyway.

Regarding checking I don't agree. It's not that you need to keep an eye on boost all the time while driving obviously, nobody does that even if they have a physical gauge. But when you want to do a test-run on a proper empty piece of road or just want to check what boost you hit at some specific occasion you can very easily take a look at it and realize if something's not as usual.

If you are tuning the engine to a degree where you need to perform a "test run", it would be good practice to rely on more than an animated gauge in the centre console. Oil pressure would be the first thing to be concerned over rather than boost in anycase.

Doesn't need to be anything over-complicated. I've done a test-run after every single mod I did on previous cars. Change intake, tighten/mod waste-gate, upgrade the DV etc. etc. Unless I wanted to do a full log of ignition timing, lambda etc. checking what the boost was doing was a quick way to see whether all is good. On the basis that it reads accurately (which remains to be verified) it's a very nice and handy feature for anyone not keen on aftermarket gauges.

Not one for dials that serve little purpose, and gimmicks, so actually glad its buried in the UI as it can stay there.

Maybe nice to show your mates, and novelty to look at once or twice but imagine 95% time the only thing on my media screen will be my music choice

Assuming that you have MIB2 now and that the boost gauge is running on MIB2 and not MIB3, then yes, flashing your MIB with the new software almost certainly will cause it to appear. I doubt if VW will do it for you, you would have to wait for someone to post up the software image - which does happen - VW vortex is a good forum to find software hackers

There are rumours that the FY17 has a MIB3... in which case, nope, you won't be getting it ever.

Personally I would prefer the locking glove box, can't see the point of a boost gauge. Must be a generational thing.

Why would you lock the glovebox so that if someone does break into your car they then wreck the dash breaking into it, its not like its a convertible

There are places where I leave my glovebox even open on purpose so potential thieves can set that no valuables are inside the car..... thou that is in dodgy places only (Jo'burg comes to mind).
