Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and apologise in advance if this subject has already been dealt with. I'm completely at a loss with my Gti and really hoping someone can help. I recently bought a mark vi Gti done 76,000 miles, from a private seller. All was well with the car including a full service history. 10 miles into the journey the low oil pressure light came on telling me to switch off the engine. I pulled up on to the side of the motorway and had the car recovered back to Birmingham. Needless to say the lad I bought the car from denied all knowledge and was pretty uninterested.
the first workshop it went into said they suspected the oil pump and changed the pump and pick up pipe as well as carry out an oil/filter change. drove home that evening and it seemed like the problem had gone. that was until I pulled up at some lights with the car at idle and the warning came back on. The warning however disappeared the second the car was revved and driven. As soon as it was stopped again with the engine at idle and the fault was back. It went back to the workshop who convinced me to change both oil pressure sensors. This was done and the car still has the same problem. its since been to two other 'specialists', one of whom claimed to adjust the timing on the oil pump (as it hadn't previously been done) and clean the sump. Again, the problem remains.
Its a strange one as the warning light only now comes on when the engine is warm and at idle. Really hoping one of you guys may be able to help. Its costing me over £10,000 and now I'm being told the engine needs replacing. Any help will be much appreciated!
