where is the grommet on the firewall of a MK IV ?
« on: 30 August 2005, 23:32 »
Hi, I am trying to do the wiring stuff for my MK IV. The problem I've got is that I cant find a grommet on the firewall, through which I should be able to wire the live cable.

I saw some people here said something about removing the glove box, which I did, and then I found lots of stuff behind it that I dont recognize. There still no sign of the mysterious grommet. I suppose it is there but just I cant see.

I found some pics from one american forum showing where the grommet is. But it turned out to be a different story on my right-hand-driving car. I removed the air filter( by great effort) right underneath the windscreen under the bonnet on the passager side, expecting to see an little electrical box below the filter shown on those pics, but what I found on my golf is a big hole lead to air-con or something like that, Jesus...

So, could anyone has done it give me some tips or, be extremely kind to show me a picture that can point out the location of the grommet. I will be very very grateful about that. Cheers.

Brent

If you remove the wipers, then the cowling underneath you will be able to see the original wiring box on the right of the car(Driver side), remove the wiper motor and you can then take the top of the black box to reveal the wiring.
Inside the car remove all the panels under the steering wheel and at the side where the fuse box is.
You should then be able to feed a wire thru the box under the screen and it will magically appear under your steering wheel/fuse box area.

Confused?  :undecided: Me too, but its not as complicated as it sounds
