as the title suggests.  Have about 40k on the car, haven't changed pads so far.  I only drive to work about 30 miles per day.  Would it be terrible if i don't change them for another 3k since my next car service is then?

thanks

Not sure how much pad you have left when the warning light comes on. You really need to visually check the pads to be sure. Did the garage give you a warning at the last service (if it is on an annual regime)? Normally keen to sell brake pads so would have thought they would have spotted worn pads or listed wear on the service check sheet.

Warning Light always come on way to early for me.

A good visual check will provide the answer you need, then a quick squirt with a vag com removes that pesky light.

Just remember to check occasionally :)

good idea although not much of a mechanic myself so wouldn't know how to visually check them cry: any indication would help

Just checked the repair manual. The warning comes on with approx 4mm of pad left and the minimum allowed pad thickness is 2mm so should be OK until the service. Still should to do the visual check though. Really need to take the wheel off to see properly or put the vehicle on a hoist. Tried and failed to put a diagram on here!!
