knocking wishbone bolt-oval subframe!
« on: 08 June 2014, 20:14 »
so i have had a knocking for a while. turns out its the wishbone bolt that goes through the rear bush/subframe.
i picked up, and torqued up new bolts from VW. still knocking. took them off for another look and the subframe hole looks ever so slightly ovaled. what options do i have?

new bolt obviously, but would i be better using a high tensile steel bolt and put some mega torque on it?
i tried torqing up the old vw bolt (stretch bolt) but it just went soft.

could i try fit a new bolt then spot weld to subframe?

The subframe does have a slight bit of movement via the holes anyway.

It will need tracking again once you have taken it off

@ wazzer, do you mean the holes the the subframe where the wishbone bolts go through?

I have just had another look and compareed both sides. I do not feel this is the problem. But it still knocking. and you can feel something knocking. the bush is a brand new lemforder r32 item.

i fixed it! i fitted poly ARB drop link bushes a while a go and basically they are crap. also the bolts were seized, and i may have done them up too tight! all greased up and all new stretch bolts. again! back to the OE drop links me thinks!
