Wheel Bearings
« on: 01 May 2014, 09:01 »
Hi Folks,

Looking for some advice here. Over the past 24 hours with the heavy rain, my front drivers wheel started making horrible "rubber twisting, metal to metal and squeeling noises" as soon as I turn left/right at low speeds.

After jacking the car up, the wheel has serious play on the bearing. What is annoying is that I replaced this bearing back last June. I got a mate who is a time served mechanic to do it (as he has done some before for me without any issues). The bearingss are always instered via the press.

My question is, is there any recommendations between SNR or Orbis bearing from ECP. I would go to GSF and get an OEM Fag, but I need to get this fixed asap tomorrow. NO GSF close to me. Im sure I used a SNR bearing before.

Also I am thinking that a worn drive flange could cut the life of the bearing fast? Never replaced a drive flange before?

Any advice guys.

Cheers

Yes if the wheel flange is worn it will kill a bearing fairly quickly. It's the same process to replace them, just press a new one in to the bearing

you can't replace that without doing a bearing at the same time. once the old one is pressed out half the bearing will be attached to it writing off the bearing.
