Cab wipers
« on: 13 September 2005, 21:04 »
Having some bother with the wipers on my cab.  They've been sweeping really slow but yesterday gave up the ghost completely, mid sweep!!

Checked the fuses and all ok, are there any relays that need testing too, or is the problem more terminal within the motor itself??

'82 Gti Cab btw!

Many thanks

Sounds more like the motor to me. Try taking a direct live feed to the motor and see if it works.

Maybe the relay terminals need a bit of a clean up. Have a look at this site for fuses and relays.  --> http://dana.ucc.nau.edu/~kaw5/electrical.htm
......now officially dubless.

Thanks for the info. What a great site that is! Very useful.

Will test the motor out. Are replacements easy to come by?

Might not be the motor.

Mine stopped too, so I bought a reconditioned motor without checking everything first.

Turns out the mechanism had totally seized up on the passenger side. Even with a pair of sturdy spanners, I couldn't budge the arm at all. The motor was fine after all that.

They are easy to find in breakers yards and I think any MK1 motor will do. Should be about £10-£15 quid?

Got it spot on - seized mecanism at the passenger side!!

A few bashes with a rubber maller and some WD40 sorted it out!

Cheers for the advice!
