Is the DSG in the GTD tuned to upshift quicker in order to make use of the torque? No point going above 4k revs and losing the torque

Not in sport mode! It drags the revs out beyond the optimum torque band. If you've never had an auto then don't lose sleep over the manual. If you prefer an effortless cruiser then get a DSG. Why not get an extended test drive. You will probably love it or hate it. If you love it then you will shell out the £1415.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

No one can tell you which is best it's down to personal preference. I love. DSG and 5 door I think it's miles better than a 3 door manual. There are no downsides to a 5 door just benefits. Everyone knows what a GTI is so 3 door doesn't make a difference to the image to be honest!

Just learn from it mate, if you don't like it then just go for a DSG next time. The manual will still be tons of fun :)
