Will a 1.4 16v gearbox work with my 2.0 16v gti engine

Hi all

Will a 1.4 16v gearbox work with my 2.0 gti? I have the drive shafts from the 1.4 and think all i need is the 1.4 clutch and cable is that right? any help would be great.

No, unfortunately not. You can use your original 2.0 gti box though (with a decent clutch of course).

Are you sure the gearboxes are exactly the same bar the spines from the box being smaller than the gti box?

Box will probably bolt onto engine but as you state it will have smaller shafts which you could possibly break with the increased torque that will be put through them by the 2.0 engine

if its the box with the circular green cap on the end then it will fit. you just have to change clutch for a mk2 8v gti set up and you can swap the inner drive shaft flanges over. not sure on ratios though. or teeth on speedo cable gear.
