I think it'll be OK, assuming you don't spend too much time on rough back roads. On main roads / motorways, I think it'd be fine. The example of the Ford Focus - probably after market 19's / reps not designed for the car with the car having the "up on stilts" look as a result.

Oh I'd back that up for sure, it looked awful and rode even worse.  Just not suited for the car, but goes to show how wrong it can all go!  At least with the factory 19s, they are designed for the car in question, but without DCC I'm sure it will be a harsher ride than it would be with 18s.

I think the 18's don't quite fill the arches as well in the MK7 as they did in the Mk5/6. The arches are definitely bigger in the new car! Years ago, 16 or 17" alloys were considered large, now every 2nd Polo or Fiesta has alloys in that size. Wheel arches are getting bigger and to look anyway decent, a car needs meaty alloys to avoid the castor wheels under a couch look!
Ride quality inevitably suffers though to some degree, but I do like a firm ride.

iainmac, I really doubt you'll be upset with the ride (unless you start to question it like a self fulfilling prophesy though!).  Those 19s are gonna look great on your car!

Thanks folks!  Just a little bit of panic settling in!  Hopefully they will be fine though!
