Changing waterpump 8v air con model
« on: 26 February 2013, 12:33 »
Hi all,

Cars been sat a while with dead water pump and Ive decided its time I got it running again.

Its a 98 8v air con model and I have stripped the car back and drained system etc, removed drive belts and what not but I read online that the alternator is on a spring. I dont think mine is and I cant see a way of getting the alternator mount off to access the waterpump underneath, its driving me nuts!

Does anyone have any ideas?

with AC you would have a tensioner for the belt (unlike non-AC version where a spring indeed sits under the alternator to tension belt).

item 4 is your setup....
I would think that you have to remove (not disconnect it from pipes thou!!) the A/C compressor and alternator obviously

Thats looks right to me how it is, I have the alternator off, its just getting the alternator mount off really, once thats out the way I think I will be ok. I think I might just have to be a bit more aggressive and not worry about breaking bits.

Have you removed all four of the block mounting bolts that hold the bracket on,  if so you may need to give it a gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet to break the seal.

A deep socket will help but isnt essential if you have the standard length socket half inserted on the extension bar.
