Coil Packs & Misfire & Recalls
« on: 20 December 2011, 22:43 »
Well, if in doubt, read the forum, read over at mk5gti.co.uk and then give it a go...thats what I should have done!!  Car was misfiring anywhere in between 1800rpm and 3000rpm.  New spark plugs 18 month ago and then 6 months ago the coil packs were replaced under the recall from VW.

No fault codes were stored so manual check of which cylinder/s werent firing as at first they thought it was the EGR.

I told them to check the coil packs as i had a suspicion after reading on here and mk5gti.co.uk...and low and behold...coil packs and new sparks needed.

So coil pack fails and takes the sparks with it  But better still, the dealer points out that VW wouldnt replace the parts under warranty as they had replaced them previously, and now count still as 6 month old

Ah well, the old gal feels better now and hopefully i'll see more than 220 mile to tank

Day after car had remap coil pack fault occurred , whilst overtaking the car misfired badly, could only very slightly touch accelerator pedal with our car misfiring. Changed all 4coil packs at a cost of £130 ( euro car parts) and car is now fine, very easy job to do yourself ps engine warning light stayed on so ditched battery for a minute to reset.

There was a recent workshop action (not a recall) issued by VW to change coil packs FoC.

The code was 28F5.  Ring a VW dealer with your reg/VIN and they'll check if your car is part of the batch affected.

My '06 was affected and changed last summer at a standard service visit.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?
