In the BMW sound gen, people removed the foam out of the pipe that goes into the firewall.

I tried it on my Z4 but it was far too loud for me.

Does sound good though

Even though this review is in Swedish, there is a picture of the sound generator at 2:40 onwards. The reviewer talks about how air flows through the sound generator to generate (duh!) the GTI sound.

lol I'm getting conflicting info (reviews says electronic \ VW press releases say electronic \ and dealer says electronic),  talk about a blackbox\pipe\can't get a definitave answer \ gizmo lol!.

Hmmm might have a look at the service manuals. Bugging me but also wonder if you can adjust the noise level.

Noticed from searches that GTD has something similar.

Early MK6 GTI's had the induction pipe my 59 plate did and it sounded good and along with the dual exhaust sounded way better than my ED30 which wasn't bad either. I also love the combined soundaktor (electronic speaker) and deeper exhaust sound on my ED35 when opening it up. I have got used to the sound it makes and am happy with it and find it is not intrusive on a run, so won't be removing it.

I had this soundaktor on a Polo GTI 6R and found it ok a lower revs but when cruising at motorway speeds very annoying so I can understand if some don't like it.
Current: GTI Edition 35 Candy White 5dr DSG 19" Glendale, RCD510+DAB, Dynaudio, Storage Pack, Parking Sensors

Gone: Edition 35, GTI Mk6, Edition 30, GTI Mk4, GTI Mk3, GTI Mk2 and my favourite the UR quattro
For those that dont know DSG is an electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox

My Golf MKVI did have a certain resonating sound together with a (to me) uncomfortable switching moment on the DSG (compared to my MKV)

Believe it or not but both problems were solved as a bonus after ABT tuning......heaven again
