Wynns Oil Flush

Debated and read loads before using the Wynns engine flush as the valver has 165k on the clock and was feeling sluggish.
Shoved in the Wynns, left it ticking over for 14 mins, drained completely, changed the filter and refilled with Halfords 15w 40.
It definitely revs more freely and feels more eager. I'm hoping the economy picks up on the daily run to the office from 33mpg. Yet to give it a good thrash or motorway run, but will change again in 6 months but probably wont flush again until next year.
Just thought I'd share this as I had doubts about it on such a high mileage car, although used it on plenty of other 100k mileage ones.... just not one this high !

I always use wynns engine flush. You have to be careful if you don't know the condition of your engine though, it can budge the sludge and clog it elsewhere.


It's basically a heart attack (clogged coronary artery) but for your engine if it goes wrong.

I've never had any issues with it but I've read a few nightmare stories in the past.

If you wouldn't use Halfords 15w40 you would probably not need engine flush! Fairly decent 5w40 does not even cost £10 more.... I.e. for price of $hit oil and Wynns you would almost get Castrol Edge 0w40 when Halfords (who are expensive) have a sale... and no it's not too 'thin'

I had rocker cover of my previous Golf that has seen almost only Mobil 1 0w40 - no sludge in there and engine still ran well when I scapped the car with 380.000 km = 236.000 mi (changing reg from FIN to UK plates too expensive and needed new shocks and springs in front).

Had to use it on gf's Ford Ka that hasn't seen changes in a long time though (2cm of sludge in rocker cover.... ) and it seemed to work fairly allright. But personally would not use every time.

Never been keen on engine flush, yes it may help but can in the end cause more problems.

Also 15/40 is the wrong grade, 10/40 semi synth is a much better bet.
