Sony XR-C450RDS and Mk2 GTi
« on: 29 July 2012, 20:53 »
Hey guys, got myself a cassette player as per above to replace the horrid JVC cheapo CD player.  However I seem to have a mismatch in the ISO plugs to the Sony units.  Namely I am losing all the station presets.  Wiring is as per below

Yellow/White stripe               Blank                          Blank               Red
7.2v Ignition on                                                                          13.5v Ignition on
0.0v Ignition off                                                                          13.0v Ignition off

Blank                                  Brown/Orange stripe       Blue                Brown
                                         13.5v Ignition on           0.0v                0.0v
                                         0.0v Ignition off

Below is pic of rear of Sony.  I am guessing I have to move wiring about, but not sure to what.  This is my third eBay special 99p stereo as other two were not as described...wife is getting rather annoyed with cassette players in the house!   How hard is it to find a powerful cassette player with green lighting  .  So, I have to get this one up and working or I am in trouble

Cheers
Rob

You may need to move the yellow (top left) to next to the red (top right). Looking at the pins on the headunit there is nothing for the yellow to connect to but there is a pin next to where the red goes.

I assume you didn't get any wiring with the Sony.

Ideally to would need the loom from the headunit to the existing wiring (so you can easily swap the red/yellow around).

Ok bought a ISO plug to make adjustments at the Stereo end.

Moved the yellow/white stripe next to red so it connects to a spade...seems to do nothing.   Have a feeling it maybe for something like a power antennae......

Switched the ISO connections round for red and red/brown stripe.  Stereo now holds stations and comes on/stays on with key in and ignition off  so great as long as I am not now draining the battery!

I tried wiring the two lives together, but stereo would not even go off, not good.  I wanted it so I could turn on even without keys in, but I am happy enough.

you need to swap the yellow over with the red either by cutting the wires and crimping them back together or try get the clips out the plug and which is hard

I presume you are talking about the colours on the ISO plug end rather than the colours on my wiring directly from the car?  If so, I have done this and seems to have sorted the station preset memory issue.  I also forgot to mention I get a few bleeps from the radio, through the speakers, when I take the keys out....not sure if this is right  it perhaps is a warning to take the fascia off to stop it getting nicked?!  Not that anyone would now days!  However, still have now power when I take keys out.  I thought there would be a way to still have power even with keys out?

If you want it on all the time you need to bridge the wire with the switched live with the one that has a permanent.

Why you would want this I don't know? The switch live is there to stop the battery going flat.

The bleeping is the stereo reminded to take the face off to stop pikeys from trying to nick it.

I don't want it on all the time.....I had that situation when I wired it as per previous post.  What I wanted was the ability to turn it on without the keys in.  However, it is no biggy, main point it is now working.

Still have no idea what the yellow/white cable is and it seem to make no difference whether it is connected or not!

Found out about the bleeping this morning, I had guessed it maybe that, but I don't think even pikeys would nick a tape player these days
