cost to replace steering rack on 1.4?

Steering rack is on its way out i think. Steering is all over the place. Tie rods have been changed and i have a feeling its the rack. How much would it cost to replace it ?

Did you get the tracking checked? Bad tracking can make the steering feel as loose as hell. I had this on a previous car and I was convinced something serious had broken.

Tracking fixed it.

For £25, try it before you go for an expensive rack.

Had the tracking done not so long ago mate, i thought it fixed it, but no joy. Its as loose as hell, dangerous to be fair.

^^^ this is what i would be checking first look for perished rubbers,can check by trying to get the wheel to move back and forth in the wheel arch,get a socket and bar on a wheel nut(car on the ground ,handbrake on) now put a bit of pressure on asiff to tighten/undo the wheel but not actually cracking them off.should have minimum movement,not excessive. Check the rack though, jack the front up,  get someone to rock the steering side to side very slightly whilst you hold the road wheel ,if the steering wheel moves and road wheel doesnt then you have play in the rack or track rods on rack side.

To replace the rack is a major job, get a friend to move the steering wheel and have a look at the rack, you will soon see if you have any play.
