Can you recommend an after market head unit for ipod
« on: 15 September 2011, 21:52 »
Sick of the poor quality of my fm transmitter.

Requirements are:
Ipod compatible- playback/chargeable and most important allow you to control the functions from the iPod and NOT the headunit
Rear connection at the headunit (to avoid messy wires sticking out of the front)
Doesn't look cheap and tacky ie ripspeed
Matches blue/red lights on mk4 if possible

I've had headunits in the past that play & charge ipods, but only allow you to control the ipod through headunit and not via ipod.

I don't think 3.5mm aux input is the answer. Do usb connections allow control through ipod? I realise this is quite a lame request but i'm well out of touch with in car entertainment. Any help or links are very welcome!

Hi Mate - i know of something that ticks most of those boxes and is a great piece of kit!

I have had this unit for a while now and not had any problems - http://www.sony.co.uk/product/mfi-ipod-car-audio/dsx-s300btx

I know it doesnt have a CD player in it but if you only want to play your iPod through it then this is maybe the best HU i have seen for a while

If you have it plugged in then you will have to use the headunit to search for music - but it is sooooooo easy!!!

Pioneer f-930.
We had that in our rocco before we sold it. Amazing head unit. Also had a slot for micro SD.
What a buzz!

I have just got this one for my car.  You simply plug the USB side of the Ipod lead into the headunit then you can control all your Ipod functions from the headunit......It is very easy to use and highly recommended.

Halfords have it at half price at the moment so that is a £100 saving!!

Here is the link to it......

Ive got a Pioneer (i'll get the model number when I get out of work) and it has a blue connector at the back, I recently bought a cable that plugs into and on the other end has an iPod connector :)
Also comes with a power wire to connect to 12v :)
