ICE Setup in Mk3 Golf
« on: 22 September 2011, 11:28 »
Hi Guys,
I am after some advice please.
I am currently building 2 wheel arch enclosures in the boot of my Mk3 golf to house two Audiobahn AW1251T 12" subs (if they will fit!) - They will be powered by a Vibe A7.
I currently have standard speakers in the front (Powered by a pioneer HU).
Ive also got a JBL GT400 (4/3/2) amp.
My original plan with the front was to power the front/rear door card speakers with the JBL amp.I
Ive now got a pair of speakers in the parcel shelf support (http://media.photobucket.com/image/blaupunkt%20parcel%20shelf%20support%20mk3%20golf/meltonvento/golfspeakerpics001.jpg) which are now powered by the rear speaker connection from the HU (ive disconnected the rear door card speakers).

What do you think the best way to go is?
One idea I had was to put some nice 4inch speakers in the dash and then components with tweeters in the front door and to power these two sets by the JBL amp? Then just power the rear door card speakers (standard) and parcel shelf support speakers from the HU? This would allow me to amp the rear ones in the future when I can afford it lol.

What do you think?
Thanks!

Will

+1 - it will just ruin the sound if you are running subs in the boot

If I remember rightly they have plastic around the base of the speaker so they wont be affected by air movement from the subs, is this your reason for suggesting not to use them? Not got a problem not using them though. Would you suggest just powering the rear door card speakers through the HU then?

Will I need a pre-amp to split the line out from HU for the 2 amps??

you can get rca splitters for about a tenner, not ideal but cheaper than a new hu

Some amps have a RCA-out, check your JBL one?
