Hi . i have recently bought a golf mk2 16v .the car was fine for 700 miles then started to misfire at 6500 rpm so i changed plugs and put some injector cleaner in .ran well for a day or two then it got worse .it wont rev past 3000 rpm with any throttle on , if i lift off throttle it will rev a bit more . it is fine when i first start up , but gets worse as it gets warm .
any help on where to start would be appreciated
PS where is fuel filter and is it much of a job to change it ?

Check your HT leads, If they are knackered the problem will get worse as they heat up.

Also check your rotor arm and dizzie cap.

check the dizzy itself isnt loose - its connected to the bolt by 2 bolts. if these are loose then the dizzy can rotate and knacker the timing

i changed the coil today and it seems to have cured the problem . still a bit of a misfire on top end so i will change dizzy tomorrow .

if your changing the actual dizzy itself & not just the cap n rotor then make sure you mark the centre line of the dizzy with the head otherwise you'll need to set the timing again once the new one is fitted

I think the problem was the hall sender in the old coil as when these go it gives the exact conditions you discribed.

Was the old coil leaking oil through it?
