Mine left ticking over:

the fan cuts in and out quite frequently, oil temp cycles between 100-110 deg. temp gauge pushing towards 3/4

The fan is fed a permanent live from battery via temp sensor (switch) so you won't even need the keys in, hence how the fan can run on when just parking up and getting out of car. As matey says short the permanent + switched feed (2 wires) out and it should fire up. If not, wiring / fan motor at fault.

when bleeding leave engine at idle speed and take cap off expansion tank allow to warm up leave heater on hot and set fan to 1, you will see lots of bubbles and when thermostat opens you'll see level drop significantly top up and keep watching the bubbles just as the level in tank starts to rise out the top put the cap on. also while its warming up squeeze as many pipes as you can b4 they get too hot
did you fit a new genuine thermostat?

No not genuine.

I managed to electrocute myself but the fan does work so faulty thermo is the issue, cheers for the help lads. She is due a good service anyhow.
