Subs in place of spare wheels
« on: 27 April 2005, 14:21 »
Having just custom made and fitted a twin sealed box with two 10" JL's, I'm gonna scrap the idea I think, and change it during the summer sometime to get one good 12" sub.

I want to fit this in the spare wheel well mainly because I still need to be practical with space in the boot and maximise the available space for subs and amps.

Any tips, anyone else done this? Downside & upsides? Best way to protect the speaker without recking the sound? Obviously I'm stuffed if I can get a puncture!

upside - takes up hardly any space in the boot

downside(s) - easy to put things on top of and damage the sub unless covered of course.
                  - The box will never be the right volume inside for the sub to work properly. It'll be harder to make and never sound right.

Goldfish had a single 10 in his mk2 and it sounded awesome though. Never saw under the false floor though to see what was happening under there in terms of box

I have a single vibe black air 12 in the my boot and am in the process of building a thin custom box to push to the back of my boot to take up less space, also got my genisis p4ultra amp under a false floor. Im in desperate need of space for my clubs ect and once the sub box is in il have more than enough. It sounds amazing by the way!

Like you said, if you hav a puncture you are fecked! and youd have to cover the sub up in order to stop it gettin damaged every time you put something in it, which kinda defeats the object!

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

Is that cos we filled your spare wheel well with sub/amp?!!!

It is pretty easy to protect the sub - you can buy perspex covers (that are pre-drilled, to allow the air to move) in different sizes - all you need to do is to fit one of these, spaced away from the sub.

Here you go, summat like this (although different shapes/sizes/designs are available)

i think you'd be better off building a custom box a la golfpro or makin one that fits into the gaps at either side of the boot..

imo  :embarassed:

Really want to sell mye two 10's If I can get similar sound from one good 12" sub like the system below.

Look at the space I'll save! Would 'seal' the false floor to the boot floor.
