« on: 20 July 2011, 13:54 »
Hi

My rivage seems to be making an odd sound when i start it up and the cars a little cold or if i put the lights on, im guessing its tte belt that is loose ,as when the car is up and running at normal temp everything is okay..

was just wondering how you do this?

Cheers

Harry

Is it a screeching/squeeling sound on whining. If it's whining when the lights are on it could be a poorly Alternator when under load.  But because you say it makes a noise when cold but when warm it seems OK, it sounds like your belt is loose so its slipping and making a noise.  Very easy to tighten, there is an adjuster arm that the alternator moves along on, you just slacken the bolt (alternator end) pull the alternator upwards to take up the slack in the belt and do the bolt back up.  Might be worth starting the car and watching the belt, you can often see if its loose as it will flap about.

Found a pic on the net I could draw on.....

Loosen the bolt in the picture

To tighten belt, pull Alternator upwards, to loosen, push down, when the desired tension is met, tighten up the bolt again.  Try not to over tension the belt, there should be some play in it, enough that you can at least twist the belt 90 degrees.
