mk3 5 door ice advice
« on: 15 July 2011, 11:36 »
HI guys, need a bit of help here.

So the story goes, i replaced my front standard speakers. These were 17cm single cones in the doors and tweeters in the dash.

I replaced them with Pioneer TS-E1702is (2 way coaxial) in the doors and Pioneer TS-1002i (2 way coaxial) in the dash. These are the recommended custom fit replacements on the pioneer website.

I used the standard existing wiring and they all seem to work.

I am starting to wonder whether this is right or not as the old tweeter had a cap in the wiring. I guess this acts as a cheap cross over to filter out just the high frequency info for the tweeters and then send the rest to the door speakers.

I have noticed that the dash speakers seem to drown out the door speakers, problem being these are quite small and don't sound all that clear really.

Anyone know whether this could cause a problem as i am theoretically running 4 speakers from the front 2 channels of my head unit and 2 on the rear.

Should i add a crossover or maybe an amp to the front speakers.

cheers

Amp the door speakers and leave the dash speakers from the HU alone.

Cheers for the reply
How do i go about this?
I think the wiring goes from the HU to the dash speakers, then links down to the door speakers.

Is it just a case of chopping into the dash to door speaker wiring, running this wiring through the amp?

Sorry mate, i have done loads of standard HU and hands free installs, just never used an amp in the set up.

Depends where you want to site the amp really.

Need to check what outputs you have on the HU.
I would leave the wiring in and just tape off the connecting ends to the door speakers.
Then run new wires from amp to door speakers.

Ok cheers.
I will have a search on the forums for an amp and a good place to install it.
Cheers
