petrol tank retaining ring how to remove

Doin a tdi into gti conversion was hopin to just swap over tank units rather than tank but when i tried to put the tdi unit into the gti tank it wont sit properly because the black retainer ring that held the fuel pump in isnt letting it sit down. Can this be removed or do i have to swap tanks

At a guess i'd say your probably better swapping the tanks over

If I remember rightly the tank is larger on the derv.

  is there much to swappin tanks or just undo the two straps and diesel and gti are same depth anyway

Should be easy to swap over, straps should be the same unless the tank is larger.
