Snoops wants the replacements Asker, not the faulty ones.
The only reason I never bought a set of Shadows was the fact from previous mk5 experience I knew there would be issues with them. And as my car originally came with poverty spec 17s VW wouldn't honour the warranty if I tried to claim for substandard finished Monza Shadows at a later date once my second hand purchased wheels went the way they all do.
I'm sure what Geoff wants to do is get hold of a brand new 'second hand' set and treat them with all manner of potions he has to prevent them from going all milky in future. Then he can put his powder coated 17s back on in winter when it gets really grim oop North.

Edit: Looks like Geoff replied himself whilst I was typing!
^ what he said.
I agree about the shadows as i had the same problems with the mk5 too. Its why i did not go for them But i keep looking at photos on an American site of cars like mine with them on and keep thinking...

Its all down to if's, butts, maybe's, and price as i have watched prices since 2009 and somtimes regret not buying NeilGTIs when he sold his but other times i think mine are fine especially when you take corrosion and road conditions into account but other times  ..

Edit: I removed my post as yours made more sense.

I had a monza shadow repaced under warrenty a good year ago. VW kept the defective alloy. As summer is approaching and I need new tyres I just as well put the shadows back on the car. My shadows are pristine apart from the bloody marks Kwik-twitts put on them.

To be honest the car only comes out at weekends and the wheels are always cleaned with bilberry wheel cleaner diluted 1:10 and then protected with a coat of RIMWAX so can't understand why they have corroded so quickly.
Sadly thats the way it is with this type of wheel finish. It is what happens when you try and get somthing to stick to a smooth surface. It lifts with time normally near the edges first. (same as if you paint something you need to key it first if not the paint lifts). The cold/heat cycle of winter/brake temp does not help due to expansion and contraction of different materials, or been stuck in water for weeks on end (snow)

The VWR alloys are like a one night stand that everyone wants rid of the next day but the diamond cut monzas are the ones you really love as they blind everyone in your local town in a summers day! Shame they weren't bigger!  size matters and we know it! :smug:

Using your analargy, I am currently enjoying a threesome...with two sets of VWR wheels...and they are going nowhere until I'm finished!

You can keep your poorly finished, blinged up, soon to be rough as, OEM wheels.
