Dummies Guide to testing Kjet Electics
« on: 03 March 2011, 17:53 »
Hello all,

Can anyone give a simple guide to testing the following electrics works:
  • Cold Start Injector
  • Warm Up Regulator
  • Thermo Time Switch
  • Water Temperature

I have a multimeter.

I have removed the Cold start injector and cranked the engine but it did not deliver fuel, however it has pressure going to it as when I undo the banjo but it comes out with some force (at least the accumulator is working).

I understand the principle of testing them but not sure on the setting I need on multimeter, and where I poke the contacts.

Electrics baffle me lol

Any help much appreciated

if you have a haynes manual it gives the testing procedures there, set multi to dc20v take off plug to csv and put mutimeter probes onto plug pins, with engine cold crank it and you should see a voltage on multi meter, cant remember what the voltage is but depending on how cold it is the voltage will only show for a maximum of 10secs iirc, if your not getting any voltage then check wiring from csv plug to thermo timeswitch, timeswitch i think controls voltage to csv as it senses coolant temperature.
tts testing involves checking resistance across terminals of sensor and voltage at plug. use ohms setting for resistance across terminals

Isnt it on ohms that you'd test some of these with, when I tested my  WUR I had it on ohms and think it was 23 ohms I was looking for.

As if the resistance is too low too high then it will not work properly.

Like on the water temp sensor, the more resistance the sensor has the higher/lower the reading will be.

But yer RJ will tell you properly lol

yep when testing the sensor terminals use ohms as you need to check the resistance of the sensor is within spec, and when testing the plug use volts as you need to know that voltage is getting to the sensor thru the wiring, i did think i had explained it clearly, surprising what a can of grolsch can do
